This might just be the most moving museum in all of Hoi An, and the best part — it is completely free. The Precious Heritage Museum on Phan Boi Chau Street is the passion project of Rehahn, a French photographer who fell so deeply in love with Vietnam that he dedicated his life to documenting the faces and traditions of the country's 54 ethnic minority groups. Rehahn arrived in Vietnam in 2011 and began traveling to remote mountain villages, coastal communities, and highland settlements that most tourists never see. He spent years building trust with these communities, learning their customs, sharing meals in their homes, and ultimately being granted permission to photograph their most sacred ceremonies and everyday moments. The portraits hanging on these walls are the result of that extraordinary journey. As you walk through the galleries, you will encounter faces that tell entire histories. An elderly Hmong woman in an indigo-dyed jacket she spent months hand-stitching. A Cham fisherman whose weathered skin maps decades of sun and salt.
