Museum of History and Culture

Two thousand years of history packed into one building — that is what awaits you at the Museum of History and Culture, and honestly, it is one of the most underrated stops in all of Hoi An. Standing here at 10B Tran Hung Dao Street, you are about to walk through a timeline that stretches from the earliest humans who settled along these riverbanks all the way to the vibrant trading port that put this town on the world map. The museum was first established back in 1989, when local authorities realized that Hoi An's archaeological treasures needed a proper home. In 2015, it was relocated to this larger building, giving its 335 exhibits the space they truly deserve. And what a collection it is. The journey begins with prehistoric artifacts — stone tools, pottery fragments, and evidence of settlements that date back two millennia. These earliest inhabitants chose this spot for the same reason everyone else did afterward: the Thu Bon River provided a natural highway to the sea.
